#Looking for advice on power monitoring plug for washing machine

Currently I have an Ikea grillplats smart plug, but it's only rated for 300W of inductive load.

I tried to google a bit, but am not having much luck in finding anything that seems like it would support these kind of motors / appliances and their power draw (specifically the inductive load).

How do the people here monitor the power draw of their washing machine, AC, dishwasher, etc.

Ideally the device would also use Matter over Thread. I also don't really need to be able to remotely turn them on or off, if it's a plug that only monitors the power usage that's totally fine.

A Shelly EM device behind a RCD was the other recommendation but that is more involved (electrical work)

I'll have a look, thanks!

yeah the anthom tech no-relay plugs are probably your best bet, i also got them since they were recommended to me here and they work perfectly fine

Yup - the relay is the bit that the inductive load messes up - so no-relay devices are your best bet unless you want to go very expensive. Alternative would be a CT clamp but that can be a faff

how long have you guys been using the athom plugs for? reading some mixed signals online as to their durability. (but given that people are more likely to put their negative experiences online, then positive ones, that doesn't say that much). The ai-generated product pages aren't really confidence inducing though 😅

Shelly seems to have no-relay plugs too, twice the price, but I suppose they're more reputable

I have some athom plugs and they have been fine so far, But I haven't used it for a massive amount of time to be fair. Realistically there will probably be some that fail over time but it is probably not a concerning amount. They get recommended pretty often here and people are usually very happy with them.
I have had a number of devices from athom over the past few years and they have been great.

I am unaware of shelly making a no-relay smartplug, where did you see this?
They do make an inline device with no relay but it is not in smartplug form factor.
Perhaps they released something new and I missed it though?

# quiet root good to know, especially for the price I figure they're worth a shot These are ...

Interesting, It seems they only make it in the EU variant, I am from the UK and we only get the the relay versions.
If you want to laugh look at the 1 star reviews on that page. It is full of people that cant read the description that it is no-relay.

Shelly devices are also great, I have a bunch of stuff from them and it was always been great. Realistically in this case: the Shelly might be a more premium product and you pay a little more for that. I don't think you are going to see much of a difference in general usability between either device though.

If i was really looking for a difference then I could note that the shelly is a gen3 device so it includes the ability to be used as a BT proxy. Whereas the no-relay athom devices use an older ESP chip which doesn't support the ability to enable this in ESPHome. This is probably not a deal breaker but it is a thing I guess.
