Greetings. The question might sound a little bit weird, but i'll give it a try 😉
Some years ago i connected my HA isntance with alexa. As far as i remember, this was i quite ugly hack involving a custom skill and the complete struggle to configure a lambda function in azure.

This works until today, but i hate setups in my environment, which I don't (anymore) fully understand and so i am thinking about reverting this setup and switch to a more native approach via the virtual matter bridge in HA. at least, that's what a quick google research told me is state of the art in 2026.

Is this true? are there any disadvantages to have in mind when trying the matter bridge way? I am a friend of keep it simple and the azure setup was definitely not simple. on the other hand: it still works 😄

any opinions?

(not sure if the tag is fine. found no alexa?)

hello. a yes. i remember. that's exactly what i have done some years ago: setup a amazon developer account, create a alexa skill, add the lamda and so on. so that's still what we need to do today? was hoping for a simpler setup (besides paying for nabu casa and throwing my data to another provider, painful enough to involve amazon in my setup, but thats the price for the woman acceptance factor ^^)
