For the TP-Link devices (Kasa/Tapo) use the tapo app and ensure that "Third Party Compatibility" is switched on. you may also need to switch it off then back on. TP-Link will occasionally disable this because they want to remind you that they own the device and not you. You should avoid them in future. Further details available in a rant write up HERE.
But to add tapo devices to HA it goes through kasa?
do i use a HAC?
Tapo/Kasa are both brands of TP-Link. Generally they both make use of the TP-Link Smart Home Integgration which is a core integration.
So how do i add them with the Tapo app and not the Kasa app?
oh its the Tp-link inegration
im so confused
- use tapo app to onboard the device to your network
- use tapo app to enable third party compatability
- use tp-link integration to add device (if it doesn't automatically show up you may have to point it at the devices ip address).
You probably just need to add the kasa devices to the tapos app and enable third party compatability and its likely the HA config will start working again.
okay ty
TP-Link are sort of phasing out the kasa branding and basically making existing kasa devices into tapo devices.
