#Looking for real-world feedback on AliExpress EV wallboxes.

The “known” brands here are often 4-5x more expensive, while still being made in China anyway, so I’m trying to understand where the real difference is in practice: safety, reliability, certifications, firmware/app quality, long-term support, or just branding/distribution.

Context: home install in Belgium, 3-phase, Polestar 4, and I’d like decent Home Assistant integration if possible.

Questions:

  • Has anyone here actually installed and used an AliExpress wallbox long-term?
  • Which brands/models are acceptable, and which should be avoided?
  • Can they usually be integrated into Home Assistant in a clean way (local API, MQTT, Modbus, OCPP, cloud hacks, etc.)?
  • Any regrets, failures, safety issues, or surprisingly good experiences?

I’m not looking for real user experience. Thanks everyone ! 😉

OK thanks for the answer, but I am asking for returns about real installs. I understand you point of view about me spening 70k+ on my car, and not willing to pay 5 times the price for the same wallbox basically. What tickles me is more the fact that I know these electricians will make me pay the extra cost, for a wallbox that will basically be the same.

But do you then at least have a model to recmmend, out of Aliexpress ? something that would be decently priced and compatible with HA ?

I thought wallbox was a defunct brand?
If interested in other brands, I have an openEVSE device that integrates automatically with HA. You can get the kit version to save a bit.
Remember, home insurance will not cover a fire if they can at all blame it on a non-certified EVSE on the property
