#Whats the common name for a device that senses a low DC voltage?

Such a silly question, but I stumble on this ever so often. Let's say I have a device that when active lights up a 12v lamp. I want to tap onto those lamp connections and use a Z-wave sensor so HA is aware of this device's state. I don't want to control the device, I simply need to know when the 12vdc (or 5vdc, etc.) is present. Ideally this would not draw much current as I don't want to effect the operation of the device under observation/monitoring.
Anyway, in the HA vernacular, what is such a device called? I don't think it's a dry contact relay as I believe those supply a current and detect if the circuit is open/closed. I don't want to drive a relay as that would sink too much current. I guess you could say I need an Analog measurement/ADC, maybe that's how I should think about this?

Anway, if anyone can clue me in, I'd appreciate it!
