#Which kWh measurement to use for energy consumption with TP-Link Kasa Smart Plugs (KP115)?

I've had these smart plugs for years, and recently found a bunch of them weren't reporting in energy dashboard with no notice. I decided to start over now that I know how many plugs I have and don't plan to rename them for a long while. I've never known exactly which option should be placed where.

The options for kWh for these plugs are:

  • Today's Consumption (which naturally resets to 0 at end of day)
  • Total Consumption (Which can only be reset if you reset the plug entirely)
  • This month's consumption (Which resets each month)

Which one should one use in the energy dashboard for individual devices?

Any will work

The dashboard is using the tracked change to generate it's visuals, so unless any of those options fails to properly report resets they are equally usable

Any will work and in normal use there is no difference. But the entity with the longest span is preferred. Aka, total here. As if HA (or communication between meter and HA) is not available when it resets you will miss a little bit of consumption. So the less resets an entity has, the smaller the chance of a reset during unavailability.
