#Some community feedback on the new gauge

It was glorious initially but only the worst change was left in the end because of all the complaints. And now there are complaints even about that. We can't update anything these days.
We can't maintain both, but nothing stops someone making a custom card with the old one and taking it on
I remember when the media player card changed ages ago, it was a big change, but I didnt really care after getting used to it (and when tiles came out)
<insert popular quote about change here>
I've been going through the mud during the beta week, spend hours on fixing everything, and it seems like I'm going to have to go through it once again. 😞
If we got to revert to the old gauge, then so be it. I don't wanna cause hate or read hate comments almost every day.
I know the feeling. The community really knows how to dampen someone's enthusiasm
There will always be people disappointed with change, don't fret too much about it
The reason I flagged this post was the accessibility angle. But I dont' know if that's true, or just part of the rant .
Can you include a screenshot so we can see the difference
Included a live preview 🙂
Heh doesn't it look like the old one now 😅
It's still smaller than the old gauge, including the updated needle
You should have made it a feature for Tile... Old user do not know that Tile feature exist, and new user would have loved it...
I am personaly a consistency freak... Thus happy if a redesign allow to have consistent cards accross my dashboard. And I do not like card-mod, thus will not change a card if not consistent ( i use it or leave it).
Look to sensor card: instead of a redesign, it was " re created" with the minigraph feature in Tile. Nobody complained.
There is a gauge bar feature in Tile:
- add severity to it.
- Add a needle équivalent
- if feasible add a dial version ( ! We do not have "multilines" features yet !)
And let legacy gauge for haters...
And thanks for your work... The people appreciating it are the silent ones...
A lot of cards could be replaced by feature :
Done:
- sensor card -> minigraph in Tile
- bar card-> gauge bar in Tile
Could be done :
- gauge feature
- weather forecast feature
- entities card ( grouped display of several entities in a "Tile look")
And at some point, you deprecate the old cards, push them to HACS, and maintain only new ones...
All my support for you guys. You are doing things... A lot of people ( me included, not being a dev..) are only commenting.
Moving old versions to hacs is the way to avoid this. It's not a simple copy paste though. It's extra work. And people expect maintenance on anything you publish.
Or you annonce a future deprecation long enough in advance and propose migration.
For sure you cannot keep everything running in parallel ad vitam...
Anyway @woeful wave I would love to see your idea end up Somewhere, because your proposal was far more beautiful than the legacy one... Personaly hope to see it become an horizontal feature... But sad about the bad buz...
Anyone in the community that cares about it can extract it to be their own card.
If redesigning the frontend to be more consistent why not consider the ‘gauge’ on thermostat/humidifier and take those rings and indicators ?
I’ve got an energy display by Iungo that uses gauges like that. Could be another pov
