Issue with connecting respeaker lite to home assistant

I have set up seeed studios respeaker lite using @timid lake config and the provided firmware. Saying the wake word triggers a sound as intended. When adding the device to home assitant, I start having problems.
Using ESPHome I can see that the device is online. In the Home Assistant Device view, I see activity like the current device time, media play status changing when saying the wake word etc.
However setting up voice assistant leads to the following error: "The voice assistant is unable to connect to Home Assistant. To play audio, the voice assistant device has to connect to Home Assistant to fetch the files. Our test shows that the device is unable to reach the Home Assistant server."

Has anyone had similar issues or knows how to resolve this?

Could this be a result of two home assistant systems running in the same network so that http://homeassistant.local:8123 does not lead to my instance?

uhh, for sure. Don't use mDNS if you have multiple instances

Use IP addresses. And make reservations for your servers.
