#HA Tuya Thermometer

Hi, try with some model with ZigBee, if you have a ZigBee network
But in general terms, avoid Tuya if you can 🙂
my experience is that (ZigBee) Tuya stuff is pretty much fine. Been having far more issues with Ikea Zigbee devices thus far. And either way, most alternatives usually cost like 3-5x as much or more, so I think having like 1 in 20ish devices DoA is bearable
I have one of these in every room as well as the plant growth boxes (I just look for the general style, not a particular brand or something usually)
Wifi-based Tuya devices are a bit icky to me, because I'd be letting them into my network and the internet. That said, I like the general concept, from how I understand it, "Tuya" produces microcontrollers that IoT device manufacturers use to build their stuff. The microcontroller is essentially configured in a way slightly similar to something like ESPHome and talks to Tuyas servers. That way, you don't end up with every manufacturer running their own, badly secured cloud, that they're going to shutt off within a year of shipping your device
sonoff is generally comparable in price to tuya zigbee and much more reliable in my experience
cheapest sonoff temperature sensor I can find is like 8.50€ vs a Tuya one for 2.50€ ... also the sonoff one uses a button cell battery, while I like to use rechargeable AAA cells for my stuff
but yeah, Sonoff is generally pretty solid
hmm they must've gone up in price - i bought mine for about £3.50 each a couple of years ago (though that was in a set of 12 so there was probably some discounts)
fair point on the battery though! rechargeables are much more convenient provided the lifetime doesn't drop too much
I love the Sonoff thermostats though, so much better than the Bosch thermostat I used to have, while being 6x cheaper
