Full disclosure, I am new to Home Assistant, still drinking from the firehouse. My current setup is I am running Smartthings supporting three (3) Zigbee (multipurpose sensors), six (6) Z-Wave, and several/many Wi-Fi devices. I have completed basic installation of Home Assistant (HAOS) on my Dell thin client with backups, etc. started. My installed transmitters are the Aeotec Z-Stick Plus 700 series USB and the ZBT-1 configured for Zigbee.

My questions stem from this Matter over Thread and not being smart on how to handle it. I am thinking about purchasing the Aqara U400 which uses Matter over Thread (not 100% set on it). In my situation, should I buy the ZBT-2 and setup as Matter over Thread? Or... Change my current ZBT-1 to Matter over Thread and buy new multipurpose sensors (x3)that use this protocol, and avoid Zigbee going forward?

I am at the beginning of this journey and want to make a smart decision and future proof as much as possible. I don't see myself have a bunch of device but as many of you will laugh, you probably said the same things 😉

Thanks in advance.
