I believe it was more like a "these are the keys" options + option to create a new temporary key

They call it password and it's decrypted in the state machine.

I think it's similar to the lock credential handling we have in Matter and Z-Wave. There we have added custom service actions. I'd propose to do the same here, unless there is something I'm missing, that makes that bad.
The credentials are never stored in Home Assistant in Matter and Z-Wave.
