I bought an older home and have been interested in integrating Home Assistant as we remodel. There's so much to research and sometimes it's hard to sift through what's waht. As I've been doing research into doorbells, thermostats, cameras, weather stations, dashboards, etc... my garage door opener (it's 25 years old) took a nose dive. So now I'm forced into replacing it. I would like to buy something that integrates well with HA. I see there's integrations from ratgdo and blaQ from Konnected, but then I read about newer garage door openers blocking devices like this. There's so much out there and I'm not sure what's good, bad (myQ), or indifferent.

Any good suggestions or recommendations?

I have a MyQ opener but it’s not connected to their servers. I picked up an extra remote and have an esp32 operate the button via a relay. No worrying about 3rd party services or integrations

i have an old setup. challenger door openers from the 80's. I have a pretty big zigbee mesh but this work with wifi/etherent as well- i suppose. I added a zigbee relay in parrelel with the manual ope/close buttons. the door opener electronics does not know the difference. i added a door open sensor (on a hinge) attached to the garage door so that when door opens the sensor swings (away from) the magnet and gives ha an open door signal. The door blocked photoeyes are part of the original door operator system so they operate as intended. it is cheap diy solution but it works well.

check out meross, MSG100 or 150

My opener is a Chamberlain from 2018 which apparently isn't new enough for the myQ logo on the side to mean much. I'd have to buy the Chamberlain MyQ "gateway" to use MyQ.

Instead I got the MSG100 which simply plugs into the opener's common, safety and sensor ports alongside the wires from the opener itself, and it works great. It's 2.4GHz WiFi so it's been reliable at long range.

TLDR buy a normal opener that does a good job of being a garage door opener, and wire the MSG100 or MSG150 into it
