LAN doorbell advice

Hi there 👋
I just bought a new home and I'm looking for a way to have an home assistant connected doorbell. I'm looking for a LAN only solution, so not relying on any external service. The ideal flow for me would be to have someone ringing at the door, this would trigger an HA notification, the device receiving the notification would be able to see the video feed, hear the sound from the door, and answer something like "OK, I'll be there in a minute". I have a pretty clear picture of the software part, but I'm struggling a lot with hardware, would you have any good references to share?

Thanks that's the kind of things I'm looking for. I should have precised in the first place but I have something like 50m distance between home and where the doorbell will be attached.

I use it with the frigate card and have two way audio and everything working [ EDITED ]

I had a look at Reolink hardware, and it seemed to me I wouldn't be able to avoid cloud storage/service

They support ONVIF and Micro SD recording

You definitely don't need cloud

so you could either use any ONVIF NVR, FTP NAS, or stick a micro SD card in it for video storage.

they also have the home hub which has excellent integration with HA

I have one at a relative’s house with Micro SD storage that’s set to record continuously during night hours and only pre record during the day

Completely local home assistant integration that exposes things like package detection, quick reply voice responses, and person detection sensors also

and i'm definately not using their cloud service. It is entirely local.

Thanks for all those pieces of information. I'll start by providing network+poe where needed then I'll probably give a try to the Reolink POE doorbell then 🙂

In theory you can use a PoE injector for any PoE device including the doorbells.

but I haven't tested them.

I am in the very very early planning stages of a new house so i'm going through the same thought processes. Double network cabling everywhere! I am planning to use hardwired door/window/temp/presence sensors. Some may use ethernet, others will just repurpose that wiring for power.

Where I live there is an old analog broken doorbell. We dealt with my girlfriend that we would try to repair it before going into the POE direction. I secretly hope the wire is too broken to be repaired 😄
