Quick question:
Are GU10 RGBW bulbs from AliExpress, Philips Hue, or IKEA good with Home Assistant?
If I turn them off manually at the wall in the evening, they don’t turn on automatically in the morning via automation.
Is it better to use smart switches instead of smart bulbs? What do you recommend?
Thanks!

you should either use smart switches or smart bulbs. If you use smart bulbs, its very important that the bulbs are always powered, since if you disconnect power from them, they can't turn back on on their own.

#

in some cases you can use smart switches if they support a "smart bulb" or "disconnected" mode, where the switch just sends events to home assistant but doesn't actually control power

#

then they act just like a remote, and the smart bulbs can stay powered so they remain controllable

vale wren
#

How expensive are these switches?

#

And I do have 2 remotes here in the house but I actually never used them cause I have not paired them

#

And so you mean if I use a switch in the wall I would have to use dump lamps?

burnt sphinx
#

in general if you want to use a wall switch which can turn power to the bulbs on/off, then you should not use smart bulbs.

#

for switch recommendations... if you say where in the world you are, someone might be able to respond with specific recommendations. Or do a search in this forum to see what has been suggested before.

vale wren
#

This one?

#

It says that the zbmini2 sonoff supports that

vale wren
#

Do you have good lamps too?

burnt sphinx
#

if you want to keep using your existing switches, a relay which supports detached mode can work. You can wire the relay to the switch so you can use the existing switch as a remote, and then put the relay in detached mode so it leaves the smart bulbs continuously powered. Or you can choose to use non-smart bulbs, and use the relay to control them.

vale wren
#

I would like to go for the first variant

#

But which smart lamps should I use that are actually good?

#

And does these sonoff zbminir2 support detached mode?

#

Looks like it does right?

burnt sphinx
#

looks like it does, yeah. I don't have personal experience with that device.

vale wren
#

Yeah ok sure

burnt sphinx
#

Do you have any thread or zigbee devices already?

vale wren
#

I have ZigBee devices yes

#

2 shelly 2pm Gen 4, 6 lamps from Lidl ZigBee and WiFi AC

burnt sphinx
#

If you have zigbee, the hue or cheaper hue essential series is probably the best quality option for gu10 bulbs

vale wren
#

Ok, so no AliExpress?

burnt sphinx
#

if you can find the older ikea "TRÅDFRI" GU10 bulbs, those will also work well on zigbee. The newer IKEA KAJPLATS bulbs are intended for matter over thread instead.

#

AliExpress is a storefront site, not a brand of bulbs. You can find anything there, and some will work ok and some will be really bad.

vale wren
#
#

These are matter to right?

burnt sphinx
#

no, those are "dumb" bulbs. not zigbee or matter. yes, those are zigbee

burnt sphinx
#

oh, wait.

vale wren
#

Yeah I thought they are smart

burnt sphinx
#

sorry for the mistake, those are zigbee

vale wren
#

But it says ZigBee? I found matter

#

Smart products connected to DIRIGERA hub are compatible with all smart home platforms that use the Matter standard.

#

As it looks like IKEAs new ones do also have ZigBee?

#

And are better while being cheaper???

#

Any information on that?

burnt sphinx
#

some of the new ikea bulbs can be used with a zigbee coordinator, but it's not officially supported, it can be tricky to pair them, and there's some strange things like they don't report the bulb model properly.

vale wren
#

Okay

vale wren
#

How do i pair them then?

#

What makes it so tricky?

burnt sphinx
idle fog
#

Ikea intends them to be using matter. Anything that isn't officially supported is going to be tricky

burnt sphinx
#

this is a new series of bulbs, and i'd expect there's probably going to be a few firmware revisions to fix issues, too, but you're not gonna get firmware updates unless you have it connected via matter.

vale wren
#

Seems ok to me

vale wren
#

So

vale wren
#

They work just fine

#

Would you rather use the ZigBee or the thread

#

Left thread and mid ZigBee

#

Right matter, middle ZigBee Ikea, left Lidl ZigBee

#

Which one would you choose?

vale wren
#

Bumb

vale wren
#

bumb

vivid cape
#

1= philips hue - 2= ikea - 3= innr, dont go ali

vale wren
#

But ikea tradfri or kajplats?

vale wren
#

@vivid cape

#

What would you say

vivid cape
#

personal opinion: Choose IKEA TRÅDFRI

#

zigbee is a proven standard, you already have zigbee, so it will add to your zigbee mesh network.

vale wren
#

Kajplats also works just fine with ZigBee @vivid cape and they look better😉

vivid cape
#

then why ask 😉

vale wren
#

Because I wanted to hear your opinion

#

Cause i have 6 of Tradfri now

#

So I will need to buy 6 kayplats

#

They are also cheaper 8 euros instead of 13

vale wren
#

Right?

vivid cape
#

i could give an example.. yesterday i went to ikea for the inspelning smart plugs (zigbee), no longer available. I needed one with power metering, so i went with the grillplats (matter). Coming home i added them to ha, de-added and drove back to ikea for the usual tretakt plug without power metering.. So my opinion for matter stuff: >>> * <<<<

vale wren
#

Why is it so bad?

vivid cape
#

i think matter is not matured enough yet. it will be, but meanwhile i stick to reliable zigbee

vale wren
#

Ikea Kajplats has also ZigBee

vivid cape
#

yes, the grillplats i could switch to zigbee too, so i did, but there where no power metering options and worse, one of the 2 showed a slider for the voltage, something you dont want for a smart plug..

vale wren
#

We'll okay
