Soon our local governement will be changing our water meters. The new water meters will have a NFC and LoraWAN interface. Now my questions are:

  • What do I have to check to be able to integrate it in my smart home?
  • Are there compatible gateways? Something like LoraWAN to Ethernet?

Thank you already for the very much appreciated help.

Has anybody any experience with LoraWAN sensors?

@random flower : Thank you very much. I'm not yet sure. I currently don't have the meter mounted yet. But it seems to go this way.
Do you know if there is the need for a gateway? I currently use ZWave indoors.

Wmbus and lora are very different - wmbus basically just broadcasts data for anyone that wants to listen, lorawan is encrypted between sender and receiver (like a zigbee network you join a network with the device, just bigger)
When you get the water meter, or no the model you might be able to set up additional connections to it, but often they are configured to only accept one. Failing that, you might want to look at reading the display instead/using the optical readout

Hilburn, thank you for your input. And sorry for my confusing input.

If you can't find anything online, it might be worth emailing the manufacturers if you will be able to connect to it with a second lora connection
