https://www.home-assistant.io/dashboards/cards isnt making any sense here

Introduction to the role of cards on the dashboard and how to add a card.

You can’t add cards to the default dashboard, you need to create a new dashboard first (settings>dashboards) and then you can edit and add cards.

In order to get into edit mode there is a pencil icon on the top right corner of the dashboard.

If you choose sections you will see a plus sign, click to add a section and then you can add cards inside the section.

Also for some cards you need specific entity types (domain).
(You can’t add a thermostat card if you don’t have a climate entity / same for media players)
