Hi everyone. This doesn't quite fit anywhere else so I hope I can stumble on the help I seek here.

Currently running HA through virtual box on a modern Mircosoft Surface with 4 CPU cores and 3GB ram passed through to the VM. As the title states i'm trying to install Studio code server but it has been over an hour now and I've tried restarting the machine and app installation. Internet speed is 100Mbps. Original setup of Home Assistant took hours too. It doesnt quite add up to me - hardware is good and connection is good. Am I missing something or handicapping myself in some way? Even installing Tailscale took a good long while.

Any help is enormously appreciated by this HA newcommer.

My guess is that 3gb ram isn't enough and it's using swap, which will be very slow especially on vbox

Do you have an ARM processor? Could be that the VM is not supported on ARM.
I had HA running inside a VirtualBox VM with only 2GB of RAM assigned without any issues, so I doubt that it's swapping, seeing that the setup already took very long.
I did experience other issues though with VirtualBox, which made me switch to VMware Workstation. A choice which I haven't regret yet, as it's easier to use and HA runs better.
I would suggest to give VMware Workstation a try. It's free of charge nowadays.
