So people in my household are not completely onboard with HA stuff yet. Therefore I need to make it so the switches work if my Server is offline. Good example it is down now because the power supply stopped working while it was on battery backup from the circuit breaker going off.

My current setup is many can lights and I want to add some more in my bedroom. Thats the first starting point. I also am going to switch security companies cause Vivint well you know you know! It would be nice if I could integrate it with HA. My thermostats are Ecobee and Nest.

I want a nice size tablet or screen that I see many having at some point. But babby steps. I am not sure where to start with what I need. I heard I should use zigbee or z wave to accomplish what I want according to AI. AI is not always reliable so I am counting on you people for some help. It suggested I get Inovelli blue Services switches and Zigbee lights but didn't give many brands but Gledopto or Phillips. I would think there are more out there. I attached some photoes of ones I like.

Thanks for your time.

Forgot to add. My home does have a neutral wiring.

Do you need smart lights or just smart switches?

I’m not sure. I want likes like I posted.

Can you mix thread with zigbee or zwave?

Even if your family is onboard, it's still preferable for things to work during a downtime.

If you want the colors to be controllable, the lights themselves need to be smart. If you just want on/off/dimming, then smart switches can do that and it's more straightforward

Ok that makes sense. So I can mix and match and be ok. Sync has the lights I want. But they told me they should be on a dimmer.

thread and zigbee work as two completely separate networks, they don't mesh with each-other. so it can be better for building a reliable network to stick to one network type.

I went with zwave since it uses its own sub WiFi network and won’t interfere with internet WiFi. Zooz switches and hubitat c8 pro arrived. I’m excited.
