#ZBT-2 firmware flashing issue (resolved)

I'll just make a thread here
What was your ZBT-2 used for before you tried updating the firmware?
Was the addon running when you tried updating the firmware?
the OTBR addon? Yeah
It should automatically be stopped and then restarted. Are you running HA OS on bare metal? Or in a VM?
HAOS on an rpi
I'm currently on the 2.4.4.0 firmware for ZBT-2
after rebooting, the OTBR addon appears to be stuck in a boot loop due to the watchdog
Can you stop the addon, enable debug logging for the ZBT-2 integration, and try the update again?
sure can
Once it finishes (or fails), you can disable debug logging and it'll download a log
failed again, got the log
Awesome. If it's too big to drop here, try zipping it up and it should be fine
mind if I DM just in case some integration is logging something sensitive that isn't jumping out at me?
Sure, feel free
sent
Got it, thanks
Can you try to unplug the ZBT-2, plug it back in, and retry the update?
yup
well this looks more promising, got a progress bar on the firmware update. Before it didn't do that
firmware successful, start the addon?
Yep, it should work now
success! Think maybe however you're killing the addon the watchdog started it back up and there was a conflict? Just a guess
The addon should be auto-restarted by Core even if the firmware update fails but it shouldn't be auto-restarted by the watchdog
I'm not too sure what happened during the update though that caused the firmware update itself to fail the first time, I'll trace through it more carefully
Things seem to be working, but if I go to the OTBR UI the topology looks a little weird. I don't have that many devices. I have 2 Matter locks, 1 Matter switch, and a Homekit air purifier. THings seem to be working correctly though
Do you have other OTBRs?
I have a Homepod, does that count as an OTBR?
Yeah, it's a border router but only if it's part of the same Thread network
Something like this
I think it's looking a bit more normal now other than a bit Satanic 🙂 not sure why a bunch more child devices were there before
think I'm good though, thanks for the quick help! I figured a turn it off/back on might be the trick but figured with a beta it's best to report it!
Thank you for the feedback! Firmware installation should be 100% reliable, even for betas, so this is definitely something for us to look at
other than the watchdog, the only other thing to note is I installed the firmware update before checking the beta flag in the addon
don't know if that matters but just in case it's an order of operations issue
You can mix and match OpenThread RCP firmware versions with OTBR addon app versions, they're very compatible with one another, so the order really wouldn't matter
I figured, just trying to think of anything I did!
ZBT-2 firmware flashing issue (resolved)
There is a flashing issue with the ZBT-2. The latest update tries to flash the ZBT-2 running EmberZNet Zigbee from 7.4.4.6 to 7.5.1.0,. The update fails and Zigbee is no longer operational. Some people report similar issues with the ZBT-2 running Thread.
Any suggestions how to proceed are welcome. Just let me know if you need additional information.
I did update my ZBT-2 through Home Assistant to 7.5.1.0 and it returned error and break everything. When I did re-flashed it with Install Firmware – Device Toolbox to 7.4.4.6 it works again. My understanding from this is that Home Assistant can’t install 7.5.1.0 and I have been searching for the installation file for 7.5.1.0 so I can uploa...
Can you describe your installation a bit more? How are you running HA OS?
