try different loader and make shure it's connecting to 2.4ghz wifi only

Just the same. I'm thinking of putting together another respeaker lite based device and using that instead although I'm not sure the reception would be any better until I try it.

Reinstalling the firmware from bootloader mode is an extreme measure. Only do this if you have tried and failed to using the steps on reinstalling the firmware.

Not sure this is related, bu I had very poor reception with the antenna included with the two respeaker lites I purchased about a year ago. I actually purchased a different antenna on Amazon that worked much better.
Hmm. It has had an update recently.
The respeaker lite has a connection for antenna. I haven't been able to find one on the Voice PE

Well I have another one in the same room as the router and that doesn't suffer the same issue. I'll probably swap them over and see what happens. Thanks.
Maybe this helps probably it won't but here's what caused issues for me ... I have some rollos that I put down during the night so the light doesn't bleed through the glass door in my apartment and keeps me awake, what I didn't realize for the longest time is that it is a thermo rollo and has a metal film on the fabric so if I close the door with the rollo some devices loose WiFi connection as it's an excellent signal blocker ...
