Hello, I've recently started building my HA home and started off with a few Aqara sensors connected to the M100/aqara app and later imported into HA and then recently expanded with some Ikea bulbs and other equipment connected directly to HA using the M100 as a Thread border router.

Now to my question, the M100 is limited to 20 zigbee + 20 Thread "maximum device count" will my Thread stuff added directly to HA count as a device added to the M100 or is the Thread border router function "unlimited" ?

the maximum device count I think refers to the number of matter over thread devices that it can manage as a matter controller. If you're just using it as a thread border router and home assistant is acting as a matter controller, that limit shouldn't apply.

how do you setup the m100 as a thread border router? do you just connect to HA via matter? Should I plug the m100 directly into my HA green?

The M100 uses USB only for power supply. You need to plug it into power, then set it up with the Aqara Home app (that will connect it to your wifi, and hopefully will load the Thread credentials onto your phone so you can set up Matter devices)

alright, so the network would be like: HA green to M100 via wifi which would connect to a thread device? I'm just trying to avoid as much stuff on my wifi as possible, but i already have the m100

the M100 acts as a router, connecting between the wifi and thread networks.
