I have smart bulb from Ikea on front porch their Zigbee version. I need it to stay on for automation like motion detected outside. I want to however still allow non tech users of the home to be able to flip the light on and off as needed but if they switch it off I loose ability to do my automation's. What is the solution for this?
#Ikea Smart Bulb Automation Plus Using Regular Switch as intended.

Some zigbee devices (Sonoff ZB Mini and possibly Tuya) read input from a switch and set the state of a relay automatically, i.e. the switch and relay are coupled on the device. They also allow the relay state to be read and controlled remotely. When connected to a smart lightbulb these turn off power to the bulb when switched, meaning the bulb ...
Found this as a possible solution
Yes you will need a smart switch, there are multiple different brands like Shelly etc. depending on your preferences. But then the question kind of becomes, do you even need a smart bulb or is it better to just control dimming and other stuff directly from the switch and ditch the extra complexity?
I wanted to use some of the different features of the smart bulb depending on time of day. Depending on if its a detection from the Camera, etc.
How do I know if the cheaper versions of Shelly's(knock-off or alternate brands) would work? I would like to stick with Zigbee or Matter over Thread protocols.
The reason to use a smart bulb (possibly in addition to a smart switch) is if you want to make use of the ability to change color, mostly. An additional benefit in some cases is that you'll be able to dim the bulbs more (until they're producing barely any light)
And yeah, you'll have to check the manufacturer's documentation or search for community reviews on any given smart switch or relay to see if it supports a "detached" or "smart bulb" mode, and how to enable it if so.
Well that's the thing, you can do all that with the switch, but as @sharp pagoda said if you want to use colours then you need a smart bulb
But you need to be carful not to use dimming trough the switch if you are using a smart bulb since it will bork them
yes, if you're using smart bulbs it's important that they are not externally dimmed, and also not externally turned off - wifi bulbs can take a while to reconnect after being powered up, and zigbee or thread bulbs being powered on/off disrupt the mesh network and can cause other devices to become inaccessible.
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zigbee-light-switch-with-decoupled-mode/403680/80 - i found a long thread on this kinda of trying to diagnose from this the most affordable solution.
The Sonoff I have can use neutral or not, and work also with the physical switch, so you can switch on or off the bulb, or control the Sonoff vía HA, with ZigBee in my case, but I think there's also Matter and WiFi versions
the neutral-optional switches usually don't work in detached mode when the neutral is not hooked up :/
(or at least, i've seen some where that didn't work)
it might not actually be usual :)
Any ideas how I find this switch I finished the thread and the link to ali no longer works but he found a cheaper alternative than the zbminir2 - https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zigbee-light-switch-with-decoupled-mode/403680/127

Holy shit ! This is exactly what i needed for a low-cost alternative to the zbminir2. It works! Super easy too. I followed this instruction to update via OTA. Placed some files in the external_converters folder and added a line to the configuration yaml. tuya-zigbee-switch/docs/ota_flash.md at 292e4cd6899707184dd662084283bbc3160a2953 · romasku...

Hi, Thank you for the great job! This is more of a report than an issue: After flashing the 2-gang AVATTO _TZ3000_ljhbw1c9 with the ROUTER firmware version, it stopped working. The LEDs do not glow...
Just went to my device in Z2M and I noticed I have 6 of these in the house. But the current firmware must be old as I don't see any of these functions and OTA is not showing any updates for it.
Well, I dont think the Sonoff is expensive 🙂
I have the 1 gang version and I guess there is a 2 gang.
I paid like 5 bucks a piece for these originally.
So I can do a lot more light switchs at that cost.
Yeah it was just 3x more than what I paid. I don't think I can get the Avatto's anymore. Plus now I gotta figure out how to update the firmware.
Well, I think quality of manufacturing and working software pays itself, just my opinion 🙂
That could be true.
Firmware is updating let at least see if it becomes available.
Well so far it went south 🙂 - Shows it is online, reinterviewed, shows it has the firmware just won't toggle on or anything anymore. I get state delivery failed.
I use Lutron smart in-wall dimmer switches for lights where I want both smart home control AND physical control. They are on the expensive side, but well worth it in my opinion. Reliable, fast, durable. Also, they are compatible with virtually every home hub ecosystem - very future-proof.
I ended up using cheap Avatto switch flashed with the firmware and a better understanding it now works very well. I am ordering more.
