#Disadvantages of Matter via Apple?

Hi everyone,
I have a Home Assistant network set up using ZigBee. Now IKEA has released new temperature sensors with Matter.
However, I don’t really use HomeKit at all—only the Home Assistant app.
At home, I only have my iPhone and a HomePod Mini.

Does it still make sense, for the sake of simplicity, to integrate the Matter devices into HomeKit and then pass them on to Home Assistant from there?

Or would it be better to get an additional Matter stick and remain “Home Assistant only”?

Generally using purpose specific hardware makes things easier to control in the long run. But there ain't things wrong about using the stuff you already have at home, that's what homeassistant is about

I think so. Connect the device to the homepod an then discover the homepod/device in homeassistant. Im not sure on the specifics as i dont yet have matter devices

I installed some of the Ikea Sensors using the Matter integration directly. I don't use homekit with the exception of the device integration on a few things. You can just add them via the Home Assistant app through the Matter integration and you get full functionality from the devices within the system.

I guess the only question is do you want them accessible via Apple Home remotely? If yes, then you might want to add them directly to Apple. If not, then I'd say Home Assistant alone works fine.

Matter devices support "multi-admin". You can add them both to Apple Home and Home Assistant at the same time if you like.
