#Confirming Device is using Matter over Thread ?
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
delve into its manuals/tech spec etc... for clues. ๐
what device is it?
from its manual:
The new Ikea range is matter-over-thread, but yes this is an issue with matter and how products are marketed.
Ok thanks for clearing that up having issues with it showing the door is open and the door is closed. Can't quite figure out a way to force tell it that its closed ๐
that sounds like an issue with magnet placement; if it's telling you the door is open, then it's not detecting the magnet as being close enough to consider it closed.
unfortunately as a cheap, simple device they didn't include the ability to adjust the sensitivity :/
I have their Zigbee version of these and placed it even closer than those. Because I was having trouble with it ๐ - Guess I will monkey with it being even closer.
you could also buy yourself a stronger magnet and use that instead of the stock one.
Really where do you get those? You got any recommendations.
literally any magnet ๐ the stock magnet is just a magnet in a box.
you could get a some neodymium magnets
But how do you know whether it is a stronger magnet or not.
you can get a pack of them and put a few together as needed. i dont know what is in the stock thing but its probably cheap
yeah something like that, then can put multiple together if you want/need.
they purposefully don't include a particularly strong magnet in the product, because it's designed to be able to tell you that a door or window is open when it's just barely open, or ajar.
so using the stock device, ensuring the alignment/positioning is good is quite important.
Well guess that means I am back to figuring out the proper placement. Normally I barely stick them on until I think I had it. Ithought i had it after multiple tests and come to find out I don't now that I have pressed them down.
i'd expect a gap of about 5mm or โ " to be what this device is designed for, tho it might have more details in the online documentation. The docs included in the box aren't complete, missing the "Advice and Care Instructions" booklet: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/manuals/myggbett-door-window-sensor-smart__AA-2664591-1-100.pdf
huh, doesn't actually say in that document.
oh, it is in the installation instructions included in the box. max 5mm or 3/16".
and designed for 90" placement of magnet vs sensor, huh. i wonder if it doesn't work as well when they're side-by-side flat
90" placement?
oh, interesting. the instructions give you steps which have you press the button twice when the door is open, and twice again when the door is closed. That probably does some calibration of the magnetic sensor.
ooo thats good to know and pretty clever if it calibrates.
I guess it pays to look at he picture I def don't have them installed this way.
oh, wait, no, they don't have you press a button
the pictures are confusing
they're just telling you to check that the light blinks twice when opening and closing as a way to see that the placement is correct
Yeah the button pushing didn't work.
I can't install it the way it shows as its a garage door and has a seal on the interior of the frame that would push it out farther than recommended.
I was 3/16" exactly I moved it so dang close and still doesn't work ๐
Oh wait I see how its supposed to be installed.
Picture 21. I think Ican do it that way
I will report back once I get a chance to reconfigure it,
working much better now that it is installed properly. Thanks @rocky loom for the assistance here on me failing to read properly.
Topic can be closed now.
threads don't really get closed here, but you should be able to add a "Resolved" tag to the post to let people know the issue has been sorted out :)
