VPE on HAOS in a KVM gone horribly wrong?

I feel like every instruction I find, is only getting me a inch in a door, to have it slammed shut on my face. I can't seem to get this thing setup. It's been two months of on and off fighting with this thing

So far - I have it exposed via virt-manager, I downloaded "ESPHome Device Builder" - it did its install thing, but the VPE lights went out completely. Now I get no lights when I plug it in. I connected again via the device builder, this time got a encryption key, and it started walking me through ... something? Just as I was typing this, it errored, and I don't know what it's trying to do now.
added notes: I don't have phone to connect it up to wifi with and it isn't showing up in devices in my HA.

Any help would be appreciated - I honestly don't know where to start with this thing now -

Why are you using esphome device builder? Are you customizing it? At this point, if not, plug it to a computer with chrome and re flash it. Then plug it in to power and let UA find it.

because I'm traveling blind here? I don't even know what you mean by reflashing it - how is chrome going to help? is there some instruction website out there for this thing? nvm Found it

Anyways, why? because i had tried everything else. It didn't show up in HA
