It was working fine until 2 days ago, now whenever I try to connect matterbridge Google home says It can't find a hub.
Nothing at all in matterbridge's log about Google trying to connect.
Tried restarting everything, even recreated the matterbridge container from scratch.
It's running in docker not haOS.
I did a zeroconf scan and it shows matterbridge correctly.

Sadly after spending a few hours debugging with their help, the issue wasn't resolved.
I know it's not a HA issue but still hoping someone here might have more insight

I dont know of anyone else able to use matterbrdge without a physical hub. think that will remain a hard stop for you going forward. No clue why it work for a short time, the dev never had that capability as feature to the best of my knowledge.
If buying a real hub is not in your future, maybe try Matter-hub. Similar, smaller scale project. unclear how long it will stick around because the dev is looking to offload. COme to think of it are you sure you were not using that previously. I have seen a couple users think they were using matterbrdge when they were on matter hub.

keep in mind that matter is a local-only protocol. you need to have something else on your network locally to talk to the matter devices.
and google doesn't let you use your phone to talk to them directly, they require that you have some other device on your lan to act as a matter controller
the thing that surprises me is that you said "it was working fine"… i wouldn't have expected that to have ever worked.
I can't find any information about google home errors with the text "can't find a hub" - what exactly does the error you get say? share a screenshot if you don't want to type it out.

Isn't the point of matterbridge to act as a hub for matter of sorts instead of a physical hub?

matterbridge is a bridge. it exposes home assistant devices as matter devices, so that a hub from a different vendor can connect to home assistant and use them.
so if you want to use them from google, you need a google hub
(there are other ways to expose home assistant devices to google home which do not require a local google hub - see https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/google_assistant/ for the manual setup, or you can use the "Home Assistant Cloud" paid service)
