Hi, I've added my ZBT-2 to HomeAssistant as a Thread adapter. It has installed the Thread integration but not the Open Thread Border ´Router integration which is mentioned in the manual.
In the Thread integration the router shows up but I can't set it as prefered. Do I have to install the Open Thread Border ´Router integration manually at first or what do I have to do now?

what installation method did you use for home assistant?
I've installed HAOS in a VM
very strange, i think it should have auto-installed. you can't set that thread network as the preferred network because home assistant doesn't know the thread network credentials for it. Installing the openthread border router integration might resolve that, by allowing home assistant to fetch the credentials from the OTBR api.
That's the same what I've thought. In the description it sounded like both integrations should have been installed automatically.
Which URL do I have to include for the installation? IP address and any special port?
you shouldn't have to provide any url, it will automatically discover the open thread border router add-on
After clicking on the Open Thread Border ROuter integration it's asking for the URL of the REST API of the OTBR
on the integration page, check the menu in the top right - is there a "Show ignored" option? If so, click it.
It's possible that you had been prompted to set up the open thread border router integration automatically, but accidentally ignored it?
Nope
Pretty sure that there wasn't one. Can I repeat the process?
that's very strange… if you are running the open thread border router add-on in HAOS, it should be automatically setting up the open thread border router integration.
I've already clicked on the ZBT-2 and clicked again on configuring as Thread Router. Didn't chamge anything and didn't prompt anything else
i think by default the open thread border router api isn't accessible from outside haos, so i'm not sure if it's even possible to manually provide a url that will work.
That doesn't sound pretty good haha
yeah, there's something wrong in a very strange way on your system, I don't know how you'd fix it :(
I've made a fresh installation today. Had it in a docker before but changed to HAOS now because of the ZBT-2
There isn't any support page from the devs isn't it? Couldn't find anything
Just to confirm, under Settings → Add-ons you have "OpenThread Border Router" installed and running?
That was the problem. It wasn't installed and he asked for the URL if I tried to manually install it.
But I've wrote "was" on purpose. Damn that is awkward now😂 😂
you're confusing add-on and integration
I didn't try the most common thing. I didn't restart home assistant. Now it works😅
… well, that's good, i guess? :)
Sorry for bothering because of this stupid mistake. But thanl you very much for your help
for the openthread border router, there are two parts. there is the "add-on" - this is a special docker container that runs on the haos machine, and this is what acts as a thread border router. Then there is the "integration" - this is a part of home assistant which talks to the openthread border router, and does things like fetch credentials, let you change the thread network channel, etc.
it sounds like the add-on was installed and working, but home assistant didn't automatically install the integration like it was supposed to. Restarting home assistant must have made it do the discovery again, and so it finished the setup.
Ahh ok, thanks for clarifying
Stupid question but should the ZBT-2 light up now?😅
No LEDs did light up and it wont find my devices

Hmm strange. Because my device is in pairing mode but if I am trying to connect it it still says "Your network needs a Thread Border Router"
do step 3 of https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/thread#case-1-making-home-assistant-your-first-thread-network
also make sure you aren't using any vlans, your phone needs to be on the same network segment as home assistant (specifically, the thread border router) in order for thread device setup to work.
