I am looking for dimmer switches to replace the ones I have (they don't work well with the LED lights I purchased recently) and don't want to start replacing the physical switches. Instead, was thinking of adding something like this:

Has anyone ever installed these? Is there typically space for this behind the rocker in the box in a standard rectangular (tall) US switch ?
Thinking I wont actually replace the dimmer rocker (it has a small slider) unless I need to.

You won't be able to keep using the existing dimmer controls if you use a relay/dimmer module like that. You might be able to hook up the switch to the module, but it's possible that won't work reliably with a dimmer rather than a plain switch.
I'd recommend replacing the entire existing dimmer switch in that case - either with a smart swich, or a plain on/off switch.
