#Matter/Thread is a mess... Or I don't know what I'm doing!

Hi everyone! I am trying to use my HA setup as my TBR. I have one fabric in my house (NanoLeaf) but I don't want to use it, because I want to build everything around HA.

I have a working Thread USB device and OTBR correctly configured with it, without any errors. I set OTBR's border router as the default one in the Thread integration.

I vaguely remember that in my previous Raspberry Pi HA setup there was a webui in the OTBR add-on that allowed me to commission a device - but since I swiched to HA OS on x86, I can't find it.

When I try to commission using the companion HA app, it fails saying that it could find any TBR.

How can I implement what I'm looking for, i.e., using HA as a TBR and commission all my devices to its network/fabric?

Thank you!

PS - I'm trying to commission a Alpstuga air quality sensor.

Did you share your HAs Thread credentials with your phone?

  • Open the HA companion app on your phone
  • Go to the Thread integration and click the cogwheel
  • There you see two buttons. Send your credentials to your phone

Imo that should do the trick.

<@&330946878646517761> I can’t delete a screenshot or a complete post. What’s wrong here? Can you please delete both screenshots? Thanks

Today it looks like this:

So, I managed to sort out the problem! I had to go to Settings -> Companion apps -> Troubleshoot -> Sync credentials

After that commissioning devices from the Matter integration successfully identfies the OTBR fabric and uses it!

... but Matter is still a mess. It's such a convoluted mechanism 🙁
