Hello All,

For the past couple of days I have invested my spare time in learning homeassisnt and setting up my first automations etc.

I'm setting up my first Home Assistant setup and am now tinkering a bit with Zigbee. I live in a 'standard' Dutch row house from 2002. The Pi with HA combined with Sonoff Zigbee dongle is on the 2nd floor. The connection to the 1st floor still works fine with a link quality of 130, but when I plug in a plug on the ground floor, it won't connect to my Zigbee network. I suspect because the signal isn't strong enough and has to go through a thick layer of concrete. How can I best solve this now? Should I place a separate Zigbee dongle on the 1st floor and ground floor to act as routers?

I know every device that is directly powered acts as a router but that isnt going to solve the issue of the thick concreet floor. Are some routers stronger than others? I currently have some cheap ones from Aliexpress.

Thanks!!

this is not 100% true but its mostly true. keep in mind that some devices may not be.

adding more router devices to expand the mesh makes it more likely that something will hear and route the signals. adding coordinator devices with specific router firmware is definitely an option too as they may act as a better router than a smart plug for example.
