I am fairly new with HA and bought myself a HA Green and ZBT-2. I was running Zigbee on the ZBT-2 had only Zigbee devices (with some hue lights and hub) up until yesterday when my wife bought some matter over thread devices. I have no thread border router and need to get one, or convert my zbt to thread and buy a different Zigbee dongle. Which solution do you guys recommend?

you could get a 2nd ZBT-2 and use one for zigbee and one for thread.
just ensure that you have a bit of spacing between them. so the antennas don't interfere with each other. it doesn't have to be a huge distance just not right on top of each other. 25cm is the recommended minimum.
or an smlight slzb-06, which can also drive zigbee or thread and can be powered with PoE.
This was an idea I had but unsure wether it would be the optimal solution. For sure it will save me some time as it won’t require any changes on the Zigbee side of things
I only read zigbee for this dongle actually. However, if I would go for Zigbee2Mqtt instead of ZHA this might be the winner, and then reuse the zbt-2 for thread
What would be the reason to choose z2m over zha? And is it worth the hassle of pairing all devices again?
z2m will support more devices, zha lacks a bit behind. If no need to be on bleeding edge, stay at zha..
I just use zha persnally. if your stuff works with zha there is no need to change.
Sounds like I should stay at ZHA then and maybe even buy myself another ZBT-2
Right now I have the HA and current zbt-2 on my desk in the office. Further on I want to move them into a cabinet. Will 2x ZBT-2 be an issue, placing them inside a cabinet?
you don't want them right beside each-other, and if possible you should keep them outside of cabinets, since they can significantly cut the signal.
especially don't put them in a metal cabinet.
recommended minimum spacing of 25cm between them.
and as said by @odd pecan, depending on the cabnet. being inside is not ideal.
part of the idea of the ZWA-2/ZBT-2 is that they hopefully look nice enough that you live with them being out somewhere that they're visible :)
