I'm working on an integration that provides a battery device with an entity that shows the power consumption/production of the battery in on entity. When the power is > 0 is it loading / consuming energy and < 0 it is feeding it back into the grid.
However the energy dashboard seems to think that it should be the other way round. Can someone explain this to me? Is it in general like that that a battery should give positive values when it provides energy and a lamp should have positive when it consumes energy?

Yes, sources provide power with positive values. Otherwise your solar would be producing -1500W which makes no sense. Devices that are strictly consumers don't produce so they don't need a sign and are only positive.
