So as part of infrastructure simplification I'm migrating my yellow to a VM. I THINK I've got a plan figured out for Zigbee stuff by deploying a SZLB-MR series (probably a 1 but I'm not yet clear on differences MRW10 or MR4 bring, just got 1/2/3 figured out). the next aspect is starting to deploy a thread network and I can't use a USB based radio as my VM server is out in a detached garage a good distance from my house. What are the suggested vs recommended options to deploy thread over an ethernet network? It's a managed, VLAN isolated infrastructure so I'm not worried about performance and if I were I could apply QoS to this traffic.

It's not recommended to run your OTBR over the network I don't think, is there any way it would reach the next-closest router device in order to bridge the distance between the garage and your house?
That next hop router would be able to connect to the rest of the home's devices via mesh

Maybe? But in my house I would only need one router really. Feels like an oversight somehow to not be able to bridge IP packets over ethernet to what "should" amount to an access point. 🙂
But perhaps no OTBR on HA? Are there thread to ethernet routers then just use matter integration in HA?

No, I get that. I appreciate the input. I think I'm going to put otbr on an Esp dev board and run it that way.
