so,im trying to set up whisper but when i click on the microphone icon to try and use it with assist, it does nothing and enters [object Object]

It looks like it keeps trying to download the model, but fails. It had it downloaded at the beginning. Did it get deleted, or is it being stored inside a Docker container or something?

the model got downloaded fine now so i think the main issue is the https thing mentioned by insirion

Are you wanting to use the browser just for testing? If so, you can often add an exception to the HTTPS/microphone rule in the settings. This should only be done for testing purposes, though.
