Conscious this could be me being thick but thanks to support from Discord users I have been successfully using HA remotely via Nabu Casa for a week or more.
Today it seems to have stopped working. I have definitely not changed anything so whatever broke, it broke itself. I am as sure as I can be that my configuration is (certainly was) correct -- mostly evidenced by the fact that it was working. See screenshots:
- I am fairly sure I was outside my home network (LAN) when I first got it working. I did follow the instructions, pasted in the URL from Home Assistant Cloud > Remote Access (the URL with format http://----------.ui.nabu.casa) as my external URL and it worked.
- Looking at it now in the app, I noticed in Settings > Companion App > Servers > Home under "External URL" (where I think I previously pasted the URL) it now just says "Home Assistant Cloud" and when you tap into that setting there is a switch "Home Assistant Cloud" that is set to on, and a message underneath is saying "When connecting via Cloud, the External URL will not be used".
I am guessing that this is the simple native cloud integration I missed the first time around (presumably because I was away from home and off my network), maybe once I came home and joined my network it reconfigured itself? That probably sounds implausible but I've never seen that switch before and I am almost 100% certain that when I had it working, I had pasted in the URL from Remote Access.
I guess the obvious thing to do is to turn the switch off and re-paste the URL but without understanding what's happening or why I am loathe to do that a) in case it just reconfigures itself again, b) just for the learning I hate to take the "dumb" path without understanding what happened.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
