I'm looking for some experience with the ZBT-2 as I'm about to buy one to build my Zigbee network.
Range needs to go one story down through concrete and one story up through wood (and a little concrete). Bonus points if range is good enough to cover about 20m outside with some vegatation in view.
I'm wondering if this device is my solution or if I'll need to invest in multiple gateways to cover my house and property.

Zigbee is meant to be a mesh network, so you're going to want additional routers (repeaters). Most mains-powered Zigbee devices (lights, plugs, etc.) are routers. You might be better off with Z-Wave Long Range devices, particularly with your last detail about the outside

expanding the zigbee coverage can be done by adding lightbulbs or smartplugs that can act as router.

haha, didnt see you commented alreaduy 😉

I was hoping to get going with what I have which is just some door sensors and ligth switches, both of which do not act as a router.
But I see where this is going, I'll upgrade my range by adding more devices which is kinda what I'm planning to do anyways.
In regards to Z-Wave LR, it looks like there's not a lot of options in EU market yet.

replaced some wifi plugs and also added some more energy monitoring around the place

I got a bunch of the Ikea INSPELNING plugs and it was a bit of both price and function

£9 GBP each. acts as a router, does power/energy monitoring

I also finally got around to replacing the drivers for the kitchen counter lights with some zigbee ones I picked up cheap on ebay months ago.

I don't have a lot of sensors on it yet but the mesh seems to be flushed out quite nicely so i dont expect any issues adding sensors anywhere in the house

Hm, they won't deliver so that'll be quite some delay in my planning 😄
I will get started with the ZBT-2 and will check when I'll get around to get to IKEA
Maybe I'll find some other sensors to extend my range in the mean time

Thanks for the suggestion, @crisp pivot !
The ZBT-2 arrived and while the range isn't that bad (some devices seem to be connected directly to the hub through two stories), I got the plugs today at IKEA and was able to use all of my window sensors finally.
Already ordered more sensors.. This will be a money grave!
