#Make a fan with remote, smart?

I have a fan similar to this.

It is wired to a switch on the wall by the door, this must be flipped on for the fan remote to function and control the light/fan/speed.

I am wondering if just getting a smart switch to turn it on an off would be the simplest option and still use the fan remote, or if there is another way or even DIY to get more control that someone has done?

I think sonoff has something specifically for fans. iFan maybe?

I might see if I can just ESP it somehow and use a smart switch on the wall for power
