#Best video intercom/doorbell over 2-wire? Hackable or built-in networking would be great

I'm rolling back from a PoE doorbell over the lack of simplicity to set up a wall display, whereas off-the-shelf 2-wire solutions would be a drop-in replacement to my current setup. I'd just need to be able to get some entities in HA if possible, like the video feed & the doorbell switch state for a starter. Being able to use the street-side speaker would be great.

Anyone did a benchmark so I don't have to? 👼

Most Doorbells have a 2 wire option, where the 2 wires are 24v for power and it works on one of the wireless protocols.

Note that 2-way audio is not supported in home assistant, but can be done (normally, check device specs) by using the device app on phone/pc

the HA candy would be to just have the video stream and some notifications when someone rings and i'm not here

any recommendation?

#

i meant that, the whole video intercom should work on 2-wire even if network is down

#

and network connectivity just "adds" features on top of it

So far Reolink is up on top for me

Ubiquiti has this to enable PoE over two wires

nope more like, 2-wire setup with the indoor unit able to connect to wifi

#

but, 2-wire setup in the core (wifi being just a plus)

You want like an intercom screen inside?

#

not sure what you mean by in the core

#

Reolink is good if you just want a WiFi doorbell but they don’t sell a ready made indoor unit I don’t think

like, installing a wireguard client on my gf phone - oh or maybe tailscale? - then it clicked: doorbell and tailscale in the same sentence is silly

it's also possible i'll rent the house one day so it was basically too much dependencies
