How do people handle motion lighting with pets? I've set up home assistant for a friend and he really likes the idea of having motion automated lighting but does not want his lights turning on and off when is dog or cats go running through the house. My initial thought is this isn't currently possible with the devices out there but maybe I am wrong. He has a EP Light currently. So if anyone has some way they set up there automations or a device that can not detect pets that would be very helpful. Thanks!

I use Aqara FP2 but most MMWave type presence sensors can differentiate from small animals and people.

I also have some presence sensors that pick up on cats but my automations for lights don’t run at all if nobody is home.

With more basic motion sensors, the simplest solution would be to change the angle or the height of the motion sensor. Otherwise, yeah, go more advanced.

@next python What about something like the EP Lite? He bought one but I haven’t been able to get it set up in a way that doesn’t detect the small animals.

I have 3 of them and the cats set them off all the time. I haven’t fooled any more with it I just don’t let the automation run if we aren’t at home.

The Aqara FP2s work great. I have 6 of them.
