What integration? Tapo Camera Control from HACS?

# graceful gazelle Hello I am getting this error when trying to connect my tp-link tapo to HA ```Co...

open the tapo app -> select the plug -> turn on "3rd party control" (or whatever they are calling it this week)

if its already on then switch it off, wait a few minutes and switch it back on.

tp-link will randomly decide they you dont want this anymore and switch it off for you and you have to switch it back on.

tp-link are slowly making it more difficult to use their stuff with home assistant. they may one day just switch it off entirely. (some devices already have it disabled it seems.)

advice is: don't buy any more tp-link stuff. when you get more or replace hardware then get something else more trustworthy.
you dont have to panic replace everything now but its something to be aware of moving forward.

If you get Matter devices you don’t need anything else.

Tapo has been rock solid for me

whilst in concept you are right that if you get their matter devices it should be less of an issue.
however:
rewarding a company for being shitty by buying another one of their products when they activity is conceptually a bad idea.
Also there is nothing stopping them pushing a firmware update. "you can still switch plugs on/off by matter but if you want energy monitoring you gotta use our app... oh btw that 4.99 a month" or something like that. I absolutely do not trust them to not do that sort of thing.

Yes but almost every company is doing that in and outside of tech. They are in it to make
Money and they make more money when they steer you in the direction that benefits them. Every industry. Your dollars spent is the biggest impact so if enough people show them hey are wrong they will reverse.
