#Required hardware for a local home assistant with the usage of a custom voice?

I was wondering what are the cheapest setups available to run home assistant with the use of a high quality custom voice model? I believe this requires running Piper, but a raspberry pi 4 can only support up to medium voice quality.

I would ideally like to use the assistant in multiple rooms so I would need multiple devices correct?

use nabu casa cloud and use VoicePE's as assistant for your rooms. 😉

#

you can try cloud one month for free

#

what do you mean with custom voice models? pi and custom voicemodels i a no-go as far as im aware

#

if running a custom local voice you would need a decent pc and gpu

#

but cant help with that 😉

but you can wake up the device using hey Jarvis

@oak night Zuko actually means the voice of Jarvis not just the wake up word (group) "Hey Jarvis".

never used jarvis, but might take a google search for the available voices when using cloud

#

i think when running on pi and not using cloud, answers of assistant will take a long time..

Yeah that is why I was wondering whether the newest raspberry pi or s cheap nuc would suffice

#

Or i might have to buy a new pc instead 🫠

buy a 2nd hand (u)sff pc like Dell, HP, Lenovo etc... or a new Beelink S13 or so. Minimum 8, better 16gb ram

Is a strong gpu a requirement though?

#

I don’t think for basic home assistance having a llm model tied to the voice assistant is necessary right?

n100/150 minipc or i5 sff
