#Cannot finish setup of Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition

I'm using the iOS companion app to set the wifi settings, that succeeds and I see the ring turn blue. Then the app asks me if I want to setup ESPHome, but asks for a host and port. This differs from the setup video I watch. I tried adding the IP of the voice assistant device, but I receive the error "Can't connect to ESP. Please make sure your YAML file contains an 'api' line."

The device never shows in Home Assistant and I can never complete setup. I do have a strict network firewall on my IOT VLAN, could this be causing it? I've already allowed the device to connect to my HA assistant.

the device need to be able to talk to HA AND HA needs to be to connect to the device. as connections go both ways during voice assistant usage.

also if the VPE doesn't have access to the internet then it cannot get updates.
due to the update thing I recommend that you manually flash it with a desktop via USB to the latest firmware. TOOL HERE

auto discovery wont work across vlans so you will have to manually add it

I do get the whole vlan thing for some devices that cant be trusted but for stuff running opensource firmware that has no "call home" feature (except checking github for updates) all it does is cause problems.

Oh, maybe that's it then. I've already allowed access bidirectionally between HA and the VPE. But I hadn't expressly allowed internet access to the VPE.

I appreciate the info. I'll give it a shot and update here.
