In Homebridge, I had a WoL module/addon that I added my PC as, and it would periodically ping it to determine its state. so it was both; a wake on lanner, but also a real-time state switch that detected if the PC was on. (turning off didnt do anything, it was purely to power it on or detect its state as on by pinging it every few seconds)
How do I achieve this same "switch" in Homeassistant?

given you want to wake on LAN and also ping. I would suggest the Wake On LAN integration and the Ping integration as a good place to start 🙂
then you could have a dashboard setup that either shows "PC in on" or "Press HERE to switch PC on"
