#UniFi Protect and IPv6

I believe I am running into an issue setting up UniFi Protect on my network related to IPv6.

HA discovers Protect and shows an IPv4 address in the integration card, but when I try to connect it I get "Unknown error occurred". When I look in the container logs I see an error "ipaddress.AddressValueError: Expected 4 octets in '[the IPv6 address of my UDM]'".

From HA container's shell I am able to query the UDM's Protect API using both IPv4 and IPv6 without issue.

I've tried adding Protect by manually configuring it with both the IPv4 address and IPv6 address, when I manually enter the IPv4 or IPv6 address (IPv6 with and without square brackets []) I get "Unknown error occurred".

I've also added A and AAAA records to the UniFi's DNS and tried adding the integration using the hostname but get the same error. I am able to query the Protect API via the container's terminal using both IPv4 and IPv6

HA Core 2025.11.3
Synology DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 5
UniFi OS 4.4.6
Protect 6.1.79

I have seen some very recent work on the underlying protect library for home assistant with regards to adding ipv6 support... so my guess is 2025.12 (when released) will help...

Hey @lean island do you happen to know what release this fix might be coming in? I've updated to 2025.12 and I'm seeing the same issue

Trying to figure out how to cleanly paste the log snippet into Discord...

Ah, thank you, I'll keep an eye on that!

i don't think this we'll see a 2025.12.5 release

#

so it should be included in 2026.1
