The Whisper add-on takes up around 400mb of space for my backups after the 3.0.1 upgrade. I have since reverted. Is this the new norm going forward or is it something that needs to be looked at?

the whisper addon added support for and changed its preferred model to parakeet I believe which is likely the size difference.
you could always change your backup settings and not include whisper. if you ever need to disaster recovery with your backup you can just install it manually after restoring.
