Hi, I'm brand new to HA. I currently have an Alexa and some Hue lights and that's all I've done as far as smart home stuff. I want to get away from Amazon, etc. so HA is very appealing. I'm not super tech savvy but can follow guides.

I know I need a mini computer to serve as a base. What products should I price track for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals?

I likely want to use Zigbee stuff, is there anything I should for sure look for to get started? I want to use my current Hue bulbs but eventually want to have door/window sensors, etc.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

take a look at the black friday deals if there's something of interrest.

to start with home assistant automation, there are a few tips: look for a 2nd hand (u)sff pc (dell, hp, lenovo) or a new Beelink, minimum 8gb ram, more is better.

If you are going to choose your devices, remember that zigbee devices do not need wifi, so if wifi/internet is down, you will still be able to control zigbee stuff. You would need a zigbee coordinator for that. So I prefer zigbee over wifi if possible.

If starting with voice commands i recommend a VoicePE or a Respeaker-Lite, both perfectly integrated in ha (home assistant, less typing 😉 )

Also consider Nabu Casa Cloud, wich will provide good and fast voice support, remote access to your ha and online encrypted backups. So when the fan drops in the sh*t, you have a backup online...
