do I need to buy voice preview Edition hardware?
do I need to buy voice preview edition hardware?
you could with the m5 atom, but you wont be pleased about it. I used it for a week or so and then quickly bought avoicePE.. way way better.
ok thank you, i just wanted to know if there is a way to test how it works before spending a bigger chunk of money on hardware. I'll take that into account thanks!
I never tried the m5 atom but I did attempt to use the onju home v3, and it sucked pretty badly. Voice recognition was terrible. Turns out having a good microphone setup on a device is a bit more nuanced than just putting a microphone on the PCB and call it a day
and to be clear, the Voice PE is still nowhere as good as alexa devices, but it's usable, specially in smaller rooms
there's something about my big kitchen's accoustic signature that makes it work pretty bad, but all others I have in other rooms work well.
Ok seems like not a viable option for long term then, thank you, I see there is an announcement tomorrow so perhaps a new version of the Voice PE? I will hold off before I order to see what comes. Thanks for the input!
*It's not that 🙂 *
@stiff jungle I'd say that the voice PE is not worse because of hardware but because of software. Amazon in a multibillion company and unsurprisingly they've done a good job with their voice pipeline. The voice PE works almost as well in silence, but there are things that need to happen in software that are not entirely solved, such as locking the voice of whoever issued the wake up word so it only listens to that person. Without that for instance the voice PE will listen to people talking in the TV too, not only to that person. And obviously it won't work.
those are tricky problems that big corp has spent the money in solving
There's also Respeaker Lite - it will get you started cheaper than Voice PE, while using same hardware.
Also there's FutureProofHomes Satellite1, modular device with same XMOS chip.
And lastly, there's Respeaker XVF3800 - new, with beam forming and will be evolving, but it's under software development yet.
Also i have heard that the developer of the respeaker lite software for home assistant is always here to help out.. lol
I have both of them. So disappointing that they hate everyone in this house’s southern English accents. I can get it to wake up, but only by putting on a “funny voice”. The PE is reduced to TTS duties. Maybe one day! 😀 And no I’m not cross, Nabu is a small fish ultimately. Just a little frustrating. And I know I’m not alone.
PS. Hey formatBCE, hope you’re keeping well!
