Just need to factory reset the Green | Home Assistant | Page 1

Hey all,
I got a HA Green a while back, didn’t really do anything for months so just sold it on marketplace (didn’t really have much automations except for a couple) and I just want to factory reset it before I can ship it to the buyer.

I looked up videos, HA help pages, the internet, ChatGPT nothing.

The file that we flash on the SD card is corrupted and the reset button doesn’t work.

I can’t login into the HA app or get to the login, guess me trying the reset button didn’t something.

Can someone please help me? I’m new to all this and not that tech savvy.

I need to ship the device back to the buyer tomorrow, so it’s a little time-sensitive

I tried doing the reset button method and I guess I messed up something, can’t see the login screen and the app doesn’t work either

It's possible you need to boot with the monitor already connected for it to show.

spark nimbus `ha os datadisk wipe` should do a factory reset.

I think this just worked. It just ran some commands and said reboot

Yep this is the one.

I downloaded the file and it said file was corrupted. I see some more folks have had the same issue on GIT

After this command, the system rebooted and this is what I see.

The person in the issue tried opening the file inside the .img That is not really what you're supposed to do.

You can try to run the disk wipe again for good measure but that should remove all user data. Not safely wipe but perhaps enough.

So this is like a factory reset that happened right? None of my info is on the Green and the next person can just simply set it up?

ha os datadisk wipe wipes the hassos-data partition that contains the user data containing all the data. The next person should see the sama s you. Wiping the partition alone
It runs this if you want to see: https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/blob/dev/buildroot-external/rootfs-overlay/usr/libexec/haos-wipe
It basically does something similar as when you quick format a USB stick on windows. I said not safe because the data is not overwritten compeltely so if one really wants they could use a tool to attempt to restore.

I only have the developer tag to be able to look into #developers and link people there. I'm not involved in HA's development.
