I am running my HA instance as a docker container on my synology nas. Now, I really need to install some addons. How do I manually install them? Like, some people said that you could run them as docker containers somehow, but I cannot find an image for the addon I want on dockerhub, it only exists on github

You find whatever software the addon is wrapping as a standalone container, or whatever other installation method it suggests

#

Perhaps describe what addons you care about

there doesn't seem to be a standalone docker image for it

That's an integration

what is the difference?

An add-on is a Docker container with tweaks to allow it to be configured in the Supervisor UI. It is only available in Home Assistant Operating System and Home Assistant Supervised (#installation-archived) since if you've used any other installation method, you can install software already.

#

#integrations-archived integrate Home Assistant with devices or services, or provide functionality within Home Assistant.

#add-ons-archived provide additional software or services, which an integration could possibility integrate with. Add-ons are for Home Assistant OS and Supervised only, other install methods can install software other ways.

Well, ignore those bad links

so I can install integrations the default way even with a docker instance

Addons are just external software

#

Yes, installation method makes no difference

amber knoll
#

now what is HACS?

chilly fulcrum
#

Just follow the instructions

oh ok thanks a lot, so I just install HACS und use this stuff to install the integration

okay, another question. What about smart assistants like Siri and Alexa. Can I use them without paying? I already do host a dyndns for my homeserver but doesn't alexa support stuff locally without cloud?

#

or well if I wanna go the remote way, what exactly do I need? Can I use my own server instead of paying for AWS stuff?
