Automation to open/close garage door automatically

Hi, what would be the easiest way to automate the opening and closing of my garage door? I just have a garage switch with a door sensor

If your garage is already motorised you can use a switchbot on the switch at home and a door sensor to detect whether its open or closed

Many thanks, maybe I didn't explain correctly myself, apologies for that. My intention is that the door opens automatically when I arrive with the car and it closes when I leave

Thanks, I already got a switch from Aliexpress, connected it to the door engine and working well

you could put some kind of Smart Tag in your car and once its near home it opens the door and when it leaves it closes, just leaves the issue of the door being open while the car is there

maybe that can be done with a timer function so its atleast closed at night

wait....do you use the compainion app? do you have either HA itself exposed( 🤮 ) or some internal vpn (wireguard, openvpn, tailscale)?

I use the compainion app (andriod) and have a wiregaurd vpn (which has an andriod client where you can have an "include these apps only" list for the tunnel)
i have two zones with my house at the center: one for the actual "I'm home" zone and a much wider one that i use to turn on high accuracy mode when entering (to make damn sure its getting my location right as im heading home). if my (or my wife's) companion app connected phone enters the home zone the garage opens and if either one of use leaves the home zone and the garage is open, it closes it (and locks the door in the garage) if both of us are not in the home zone i do more stuff. oh! i do have a check for coming home to make sure im connected to andriod auto .
